EAL/D at Bletchley Park

At Bletchley Park Primary School we are very proud of the many different cultures and nationalities that make up our school. Did you know that about one third of our students speak a language other than English at home? Some our language backgrounds include Arabic, Mandarin, Dari, Urdu, Punjabi and Afrikaans.

The EAL/D Team at Bletchley Park ensures that students who are identified as having a non English speaking background receive maximum opportunities for literacy support in a small group setting. Students from years 1-6 may work with an EAL/D teacher to receive support in reading or writing through programmes such as Mulitilit and T4W. The lessons are targeted and explicit to address language needs directly.

Where necessary, EAL/D students are placed on Progress Maps for reporting in order to show the progress they are making in the English language.

At the end of the year, students in year 6 who have been receiving literacy support are invited on an excursion to the city to aid their high school transition. We travel by train to visit the cultural centre of Perth.

We regularly engage interpreters at the school to help parents with enrolments and with discussing their child’s progress. We welcome this contact at any time.

Please feel free to contact the EAL/D coordinator at the school if you have any questions about the programme.
