Language at BPPS
Students from Year 3 to Year 6 learn Indonesian for 50 minutes each week in the Indonesian Room with a dedicated language specialist. The focus is on engaging students and developing a positive attitude toward language learning through activities such as reading, performing, art, games, music and technology. As part of the Year 6 program, students created menus, acted out a scene in a restaurant and tried different Indonesian foods.
Highlights for 2019 include celebrating Harmony Week in March with a range of activities and the Indonesian assembly, as well as Languages Week in August promoting the diversity of languages spoken within the school and students’ work on display at a local library.
In 2019, Bletchley Park has been a Primary Language Support School in WA to assist teachers implementing the new curriculum for Languages by hosting network meetings each term and presenting professional learning and mentoring new teachers.
We have also hosted an Indonesian Language Learning Ambassador from Murdoch University. Pak Noval has visited classes in Term 4 to develop students’ language learning and cultural understanding.
If you are ever going to Bali, visit the Indonesian Room and collect a useful travel brochure created by a Year 6 student to help with the language, culture and activities to do there.
